The District Celebrates Opening of Huadu Section of Guangzhou-Qingyuan Intercity and Guangzhou East Ring Intercity, Igniting Air-rail Engine to Build New Hub City

  Today's Huadu News: The District offered test rides of Guangzhou-Qingyuan Intercity and Guangzhou East Ring Intercity on the morning of Nov. 29. With the official opening to traffic on November 30, the two intercity lines will bring additional benefits integrated development to citizens of Guangzhou and Qingyuan by providing faster and more convenient transportation.

  The event was witnessed by Chen Zhiying, member of the Standing Committee of Guangzhou Party Committee and Executive Deputy Mayor, Huadu District leaders Huang Weilin, Xing Xiang, Guo Gongtian, and Chen Jiafei, and other leading officials of relevant Guangzhou and Huadu government agencies, as well as designers, first-line builders, and representatives of operator of Guangzhou-Qingyuan Intercity, honorary citizen representatives and Huadu Virtuous People representatives. It's been reported that the opening event, themed on the "Air-railway Engine for New Hub City", had a main venue at Huadu Station, and four sub-venues at Letong Station, Shiling Station, Huacheng Street Station and Huashan Town Station.

  Information shows that the Huadu to Qingcheng section of Guangzhou-Qingyuan Intercity is 38.2 kilometers long, with a total of 6 stations, of which Huadu Station and Letong Station are ground stations, and Shiling Station, Yinzhan Station, Longtang Town Station, and Qingcheng Station are elevated station; and the Huadu to North Baiyun Airport section of Guangzhou East Ring Intercity is 22.6 kilometers long, with 4 stations in total, of which Huadu Station is a ground station, and Huacheng Street Station, Huashan Town Station and Baiyun Airport North Station are underground stations. Huadu Station is connected to Guangzhou Metro Line 9, and Baiyun Airport North Station to Guangzhou Metro Line 3. The maximum speed of Guangzhou-Qingyuan Intercity is 200 kilometers per hour, and that for Guangzhou East Ring Intercity is 160 kilometers per hour.

  According to Ye Yong, senior engineer of China Railway Engineering Consulting Group Co., Ltd., and the overall designer of Guangzhou-Qingyuan Intercity, the six to ten kilometers distance between stations on the intercity rail, a result of the large number of stations, make it unpractical for the train to run at 350 kilometers per hour, because it may have to stop soon after it starts. Therefore, in selecting speed target value, it is finally decided that the speed of 200 kilometers per hour is a proper fit with the positioning of intercity rail, which is to connect a one-hour economic circle. "We have achieved precise stop; the carriage doors will be perfectly aligned with doors on the platform, with an allowance of 10 centimeters, when the train stops. It has the speed of passenger railway and precision of subway."

  Xing Xiang, Deputy Secretary of Huadu Party Committee and District Mayor, said in her speech that the on-time completion and opening to traffic of the Huadu to Qingcheng section of Guangzhou-Qingyuan Intercity, and the Huadu to North Baiyun Airport section of Guangzhou East Ring Intercity is of great significance for Huadu in its efforts to accelerate the construction of a comprehensive air-rail combined transportation system with Baiyun Airport and Guangzhou North Station at the core, and to accelerate the District's integration into the "one-hour traffic circle" of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It will also provide strong support to break the transportation "bottleneck" between Guangzhou and Qingyuan, help promote the integration of the two cities, and enhance competitiveness and influence of the region. At the same time, the opening to traffic of Guangzhou-Qingyuan Intercity will help shape a new reality of rail transportation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area that features “one network, one ticket, and one cluster of cities”, and help to run inter-city rail transit as public bus.

  According to Ye Yong, Guangzhou-Qingyuan Intercity, as part of the intercity railway construction plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission. It is the first 200 kilometer per hour intercity railway independently built and run by Guangdong province, which breaks a new path for independent building, operation and management of intercity rails.
